UK based NatWest bank is running a 3 month trial, along with Mastercard and Gemalto, of a biometric credit card where you can use your fingerprint to verify transactions; if the contactless transaction is greater than $35 than the consumer can verify it using their fingerprint, if the purchases exceeds $100 than the consumer will insert the card into the terminal and verify using their fingerprint; Users lock in their fingerprint on the card and it cannot be changed once it is locked in, NatWest says the biometric data does not leave the card and is not shared with the bank; Georgina Bulkeley, NatWest’s Director of Innovation, tells CNBC, “This is the biggest development in card technology in recent years and not having to enter a PIN not only increases security but makes it easier for our customers when paying for goods or services.” Source.
